Vilmo Rises ©2010 David G. Morgan

This ink drawing was based upon a character concept story, without divulging too much, was a hunter by trade. This profession he sought was spurred by personal tragedy. Ironically it was developing into a comedy, albeit a dark comedy. My original intention was for it to be a biweekly comic strip of which I would post on a website, a concept I'm still contemplating. Hmmm.

Fan Art

Well I decided I'm going to try something different this year as I will incorporate fan art as well as original sketches drawings, etc. As you may have read that I love film/movies, however you want to classify them (I guess that depends on the source material in question). I very much enjoyed the Lord of the Rings trilogy, as my family can attest. I never was very much interested in the story as much when I was younger when it was in the form of the cartoon from Rankin and Bass in the Hobbit. But after the films, I went back and looked at those old cartoons and I always remembered this image from The Hobbit especially. So when things like that happen, as an artist, you like to better your skill by drawing/sketching albeit creating art from things that will spark your imagination. This was indeed the case when recalling the old cartoon, there was a scene early in the cartoon that showed the character Gandalf in his first appearance emerging from behind this great tree sitting atop a grassy hill. And even before going back to the cartoons to look at them after the films had come out, it was the first image I remembered. So this is my version of it.
